DESIGN FOR FELIX GEPHART ART BOOK »BROUGHT INTO LINE«

During the last months, I was mainly focused on the design of an exhibition catalogue/art book, which will be released by art publisher Kettler and displays a fabulous edition of works from my brother Felix Gephart, selected from 2004 to 2012. If you´re not familiar with my brother´s work, visit his portfolio here. The cover motiv i chose, is »Pigs & Chicks« from Felix Gephart’s drawing series AMERICAN PSYCHO, related to Bret Easton Ellis’ novel of the same name. From May to June 2013, some of the original works of the American Psycho series will also be exhibited in a huge solo show at Kunstverein Bochumer Kulturrat. Here´s an article related to the show. In the Magazine & Book section, you can now check the title artwork of the book and get an impression of the layout style inside. The hardcover book, which also contains a brilliant text by art historian and curator Carsten Roth, is entitled »AUF LINIE GEBRACHT / BROUGHT INTO LINE« and will be available from Hune 2013 on. Check the music section for some new artworks comissioned by record label aufnahme+wiedergabe. I designed a creepy logo character, the packaging for a tape (!) edition and limited posters that were sold at the release gig of LA FETE TRISTE in Berlin.
New work for WDV publishers

Publishing company WDV asked me to design a tattoo for the youth magazine of AOK insurance and told me that i had to work directly on the back of a beautiful lady from the stock agency =). Check »Bilder für die Ewigkeit« in the magazine section: the tattoo including a well known bird is surely as cliché as it gets! I prepared a rather hc version with the same title as well - that one will be published in the logo section soon.

Exhibition at STRYCHNIN Gallery

Berlin based illustrator and graphic artist Christian Rothenhagen invited me to join his show METROPOLITAN at Strychnin Gallery in Berlin, with one additional contribution to a group show curated at the same place. I created a special piece for this occasion, containing drawing, type and weird details - and, different from the original plan, three varations of TALES FROM THE MOLOCH were chosen to be presented in the gallery. The vernissage is today!
PASSION PLAY - Illustration package for New Wave band

I was requested to design a whole package of graphics for Justin Stephens, mastermind behind PASSION PLAY: a CD with a 16-pages booklet, flyers, buttons and a shirt plus a special poster, signed and limited to an edition of 100 prints. All this beautiful material can be ordered via Berlin-based label aufnahme+wiedergabe. The label also offers the chance to listen to the wonderful sound of Passion Play - don´t miss it.
TIRED OF WAR! Live painting at Yard 5 Summer Jam

My brother, illustrator Felix Gephart and me have joined forces again and painted an anti-war piece on the summer jam of Yard5 in Berlin. Felix painted his cover motiv for the previously released german edition of »Johnny got his Gun« by Dalton Trumbo (released for the first time in an illustrated edition by Berlin-based publishers Onkel und Onkel), i added a calligraphic piece saying TIRED OF WAR. The pictures from the event will soon be released on my fine art page and of course on FB. We keep you posted =).
Illustration for international garden trade fair

I was requested to design a logo illustration for SPOGA/GAFA, the international garden industry trade fair. The illustration needed to be based on a given font and needed to represent this years slogan »GROW!«. This time a simple idea was needed - and I came up with a funny and friendly approach, that depicts natural process in an easy way =).

I’ve been represented bei illustrators agency Weinper in Vienna since 2008, but was now requested to join the really strong portfolio of a german agency too, with which I will especially focus on working with clients in the fields of editorial design and advertisement graphics. I’m glad to announce that from now on I sail with the ship of EGGER GREY. Full speed ahead is the motto.

Seit fast 2 Jahren präsentiert die Berliner Neonchocolate Gallery in schnellem Rhythmus aufregende, junge Kunst von nationalen und internationalen Künstlern. EXHIBITION AT BLOOM - CREATIVE INDUSTRIES ART SHOW COLOGNE.

The BLOOM show takes place at the same time and location as ART.FAIR, the Cologne fair for modern & contemporary art, but focuses more on lowbrow, urban and outsider stuff. From the 28th of October to the 1st of November Gallery BOX 32 will be there and present their artist portfolio. BOX 32 will show my actual screenprint works and also have a few of my Magic Moments photographs in stock. Especially if you´re living in the Ruhr/Rhein area, feel sentenced to follow my invitation!

Following the authors (the folks of german top graph magazine SLANTED!) passionate approach to contemporary illustration, this three-books-in-a-box treasure entitled FRESH really shows it all: object, public, print. And yes: My brother Felix Gephart, me and our crew member Nicki Hebestreit, we also do it all - and i have just been informed that we are all featured. Can´t wait to hold these books in my hand - thank you for the support!

BLACK MINDED IN BERLIN - LOGO.

In Berlins nightlife with all its hot-spots and cold edges, lack of options should not be a topic, but subcultures always have very specific divisions and sub-divisions that include or exclude the experts: there is always someone who does not yet feel satisfied. For progressive-, old- and new wavers and their environmental followers, Berlin has Death Disco or Modern Movement, just to name two important events - and now a group of enthusiasts comes up with something new, simply entitled BLACK. I designed the logo and the first flyer: you find it in the Music Illustration section.

I was comissioned to illustrate a double-page spread on the topic of TINNITUS, which will be published in a youth magazine from AOK insurance. Obvisiously a LOUD issue we should all be concerned about - and finally a nice topic to work with on a visual level.

My works for several Hardcore-, Punk- and Gothic Rock bands has now been selected for presentation in the upcoming book BASIC PACK by well known graphic design and art book publishers INDEX BOOK from Barcelona. For this publication i had the physical LP and CD sleeves photographed in a studio - in this way they will also be shown on the new DISTURBANITY website. In the eighth year after starting DISTURBANITY Graphics and running Disturbanity.com, i´m glad to announce, that now and here you finally find the latest, once again improved & brand new Disturbanity page: the illustration portfolio of Matthias Gephart.
Some things have changed: I decided to split my fine art portfolio from my showcase of comissional works. There has been a real jungle of artworks growing on the last Disturbanity website - and for people who have not been familiar with my work for years, i felt I need to set this straight : Since I live in Berlin for some years now, I am much more involved in doing art shows - but on the other hand i am still working on comissional illustration and graphic design jobs, just like I allways did. In other words: If you want to get in touch with me for working on your project, here is the right place to do so.
For my free photographic work, paintings, collage and murals, a new website will be established this spring as well, you will then find it on matthiasgephart.com then.
